The Office of State Administrative Hearings welcomes Governor Nathan Deal’s announcement that State House Majority Leader Larry O’Neal will serve as the next Chief Judge of the Georgia Tax Tribunal, a division of the Office of State Administrative Hearings that hears and resolves disputes between the Georgia Department of Revenue and taxpayers. Judge O’Neal will succeed the Honorable Charles R. Beaudrot, Jr. as Chief Judge beginning May 1, 2015.

“As an accomplished accountant and tax attorney, Judge O’Neal will be a tremendous asset to the Georgia Tax Tribunal, and I welcome his appointment,” said Deputy Chief Judge Michael Malihi. “Judge O’Neal’s distinguished career in tax law and his dedicated service to the people of Georgia in the legislature make him well-suited to be the Tax Tribunal’s next Judge.”

“The Tribunal will be in incredibly competent hands under Judge O’Neal’s leadership. His stature and knowledge of the finances of the State of Georgia are second to none and will serve him in great stead in this position,” said Judge Beaudrot.

Judge O’Neal most recently served as House Majority Leader, and has represented House District 146 (Warner Robins) since his election to the House in 2001. Prior to his election as Majority Leader, he served as Governor Sonny Perdue’s Floor Leader and Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Judge O’Neal serves on the Advisory Board of Directors of CB&T Bank of Middle Georgia and is a former member of the Warner Robins Rotary Club. He earned his law degree from Woodrow Wilson College of Law, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia.

Judge O’Neal and his wife, Kathy, have two children, Megan and Lawrence III.
