On June 12, 2013, Judges Kristin Miller and Kim Schroer spoke to public interest environmental lawyers at GreenLaw\’s monthly meeting in Atlanta. The Judges gave an overview of OSAH, its caseload and procedural rules, as well as case management and practice recommendations for litigating complex administrative cases.

Judge David C. Langston has been nominated for the 2013 NCSEA Judicial Award.

Judge David C. Langston has been nominated for the 2013 NCSEA Judicial Award. \”This honor is to recognize a State, County or County judge, referee, commissioner, hearing officer, administrative law judge, IV-D master, court master, associate judge, or person with similar responsibilities who has strengthened the child support program through decisions and actions resulting in more effective child support enforcement or by implementing more effective measures in the judicial system.\”The National Child Support Enforcement Association (NCSEA) is a nationwide organization for child support professionals and vendors. The organization\’s membership includes frontline staff and managers in the state, tribal and foreign child support programs as well as those working for private businesses and other organizations that provide various services utilized by child support agencies. NCSEA selected the Georgia DCSS as the 2012 Outstanding Child Support Program of the year.

The 2013 awards will be presented at the NCSEA Annual Training Conference in Baltimore in early August.

Judge Hiroshi Uchiyama of Japan visiting With Judge Michael Malihi
Honorable Hiroshi Uchiyama, Assistant Judge in the Osaka District Court of Japan, concluded his visit to the United States in June 2013 with a final visit to OSAH. Judge Uchiyama attended several hearings and meetings at OSAH in the past year. He also assisted Judge Hideki Fujii of Tokyo District Court with the preparation of a research paper on Administrative Law in the United States and Japan.

Judge Patrick Woodard Spoke at Continuing Legal Education Seminar

Judge Patrick Woodard spoke at the annual “Driver’s License Law” CLE Seminar on May 23, 2013 at the State Bar Building in Atlanta. The seminar, sponsored by the Georgia Department of Driver Services(DDS), covered many areas of law and regulation governing Georgia driver\’s licenses, including the Teenage Driving and Responsibility Act (TADRA), commercial driver\’s licenses, and administrative license suspensions and revocations. Once session addressed changes in the appearance and security features of the new Georgia driver\’s license.Judge Woodard presented on \”OSAH Procedural Rules,\” with emphasis on how OSAH handles attorney appearance conflicts, request for continuance, and motions practice. Over 70 attorneys attended the seminar, which was also broadcast to several remote locations.
