A 7-year-old student and his mother were unsuccessful in seeking relief under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The Court granted the school district’s motion for involuntary dismissal on most of the claims raised, but it reviewed on the merits the mother’s objection to her son being placed in a more restrictive special education classroom. In light of the evidence presented—including a full presentation on the student’s lack of improvement despite several intervention efforts and the potential benefits of a more restrictive placement—the Court denied the student’s and mother’s request for relief.
